Article types & categories
Articles are published in our eight primary categories — Bridges, Diversity, Ethics, Learning, Materials, Movement, Performing, and Politics — and in a variety of article types, within those categories: Academic-ish Article, Join the Conversation, Personal Reflection, and Read or Respond (full category/type descriptions & example articles linked).
Writers may offer to submit a series of three or more articles on an overarching topic or theme using these types & categories.
Writers may submit shorter pieces (“Bites”) in our Nugget and Field Notes categories. Nuggets use the same proposal form as full-length articles. Field Notes are submitted via a separate form and are obligated to only one round of edits.
Check out more details about article categories and the publication process in the Writer’s Handbook, and please reach out to the Editors with any questions!
